Dr. Michael W. Hopkins

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins

-1 Peter 4:8

Reverend Dr. Michael Wayne Hopkins is a native of Baltimore MD and was born to the late Deacon Elsie M. Young and the late Lexie Hopkins.  He received his early Christian training at the Cornerstone Church of Christ under the late Rev. I.  Logan Kearse.  It was there that he accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and was baptized in the spring of 1972.

Soon after graduating from Forest Park Senior High School in Baltimore, MD., Dr. Hopkins enlisted in the United States Navy where he served for (10) ten years as a Aviation Anit-submarine Warfare Operator and Rescue Swimmer. While serving in the military he joined the Good Shepherd Baptist Church in Baltimore MD and began studying the scriptures under the late Rev. Robert C. Hunt.  It was there that Dr. Hopkins grew in wisdom and knowledge of Lord and received his call into the preaching and teaching ministry, and later licensed in the fall of 1989.

To pursue his call in the ministry and further prepare for the work of the Lord, he was honorably discharged from the military and received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religious Studies and Sociology from Saint Leo University in Saint Leo FL in 1992.

He was later called to his first appointing as Assistant Pastor of Emmanuel Christian Community Church. There Dr. Hopkins demonstrated exemplary pastoral leadership by assuming the senior pastor’s duties after his retirement.  Through his leadership many ministries were organized and the membership increased dramatically.

Dr. Hopkins is an alumnus of Howard University’s School of Divinity where he received his Masters of Divinity in 1995.  He continued his quest for academic excellence and received his Doctor of Ministry Degree from Virginia Union University in Richmond VA in spring of 2003, where his dissertation was entitled, “A Model of Healing and Spiritual Renewal for Pastor and People after Congregational Conflict”.

God used Dr. Hopkins and led him to organize the Lamb of Life Baptist Church in June 1994 where he served faithfully for 15 years until He was called to his present assignment as the Shepherd of the Historic Third Baptist Church in great city of Washington DC.

Faithful, is the word that describes Dr. Hopkins.  He is faithful to the call to love, lead and serve the people of Third Baptist, and all who desire to know Christ and to hear a word of exhortation, encourage and comfort. He is a dynamic and awesome preacher who has delivered powerful sermons all over the United States.  He is a much sought after lecturer who specialize in area of healing pastors and congregations after conflict. Among some of his workshops and seminars are, “Lion’s Den Faith”, “Keepers of the Flame”, “The Worship Experience: What a privilege”, and “Healing after the Church Fight” each is gear to bringing spiritual renewal to the Body of Christ.

Dr. Hopkins is currently under the covering and mentoring of Bishop Walter S. Thomas of the New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore and is a charter member of the Kingdom Association of Covenant Pastors (KACP).

He is gladly and madly in love with his wife and friend Lady Janet A. Hopkins of Belize, Central America and is the proud father of Michael Jahi and Megan Jaha.
